It's hot out there and trips to the beach have become part of our lives again. You've probably started checking out the stores for a new bikini, sarong, flip flops or summer hat. Even if you're just browsing, seeing the latest sea, sand and summer sun accessories temptingly displayed in your favourite shop, never fails to get you in that happy holiday mind space!
We all want to look good when we go to the beach so here are a few tips on what to wear and how to look and feel your absolute best.
The Man Shirt
Despite the fact that your boyfriend's, husband's, dad's (!), shirt was designed for men, this loose fitting and often chic garment is an ideal choice when we want to wear something stylishly oversized for a carefree & comfy beach look.
Shorts Sharp Chic.
If you prefer a casual look, cut-off denim shorts are perfect for a trip to the seaside. Pair with an airy top and you're ready to go. Don't you just love the summer?!
Sarong So Right.
If shirts and shorts don't float your boat and you prefer a flouncy feminine feel, then the sarong is certainly the way to go. Mini or maxi, the sarong will also lend an ethnic touch to your beach wear giving you an added air of mystery as you kick up the sand!
Easy Breezy.
An easy breezy dress is an ideal choice for the beach especially if you enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Easy to take off, easy to put on - what's not to love?!
To BI-kini or not to BI-kini?
…….that is the (all important) question. Which swimsuit is ideal for me? Should I go for a two piece or a one piece? Basically, apart from the colour and texture, the choice depends on your body type. So, just remember these basic tips:
If you want to hide your belly, go for a one piece.
If you want to make your legs look longer, choose high cut bikini bottoms.
If you want to accentuate your bust, opt for a bandeau top with ruffles.
If you want to minimize your bust, make sure it cuts straight across at the top and has wide set straps.
So now we've sorted out what we're going to wear, let's make sure we don't just look fabulous but feel fabulous too. Read on to discover tips on how get the body beautiful this summer.
Kiss & Make-Up
Now, make-up is not ideal for a beach situation but some of us just don't feel confident without a little bit of help. A touch of lip gloss in coral or pink will keep those lips luscious and show off your tan as well. It might be a good idea to see if you can find, instead of a gloss, a lip balm that not only has a touch of colour but will protect your lips with an SPF too. Failing that, before your gloss, apply a lip balm with sun protection. That way you'll protect your lips and keep them captivatingly kissable tool! A waterproof mascara is another make-up item you can apply before going to the beach. Apply just the one coat so as to keep it as au naturel as possible. Remember we want to accentuate our features not look like a beauty counter consultant!
Nail It
Be playful! Summer is a time to let loose and enjoy yourself so play with colour too. Painting your nails is one way to do this so be imaginative. Check out the latest nail shades and adapt them to your style and colour palette.
Not in Vein
If you have spider veins, cover them up with waterproof concealer in your skin tone. There are lots on the market specifically designed for camouflaging these pesky capillaries so find one that's ideal for your skin colour and don't forget to blend blend blend!
Smooth Operator
Don't forget to exfoliate frequently for silky smooth skin. Your skin is constantly on show during those summer months so make sure it's in tip top condition. Take off your flip flops as soon as you reach the sand for an impromptu exfoliation session of the sole/soul - it will rub off any rough edges and it feels so good too!
Crème de la Crème
Always apply rich moisturizing body lotion and never go out in the day without a high SPF face cream - sun damage is the primary factor for premature ageing. For those evening outings, apply iridescent cream to your décolletage and shoulders for an eye-catching shimmer. After sunbathing, always apply after-sun lotion. This will maintain your tan for longer as well as soothing your skin from the sun's harsh rays. It smells good too!
Fresh & Fragrant
Don't wear too much perfume during those summer months as it has a tendency to leave marks on suntanned skin. There's not really any need to either as moisturizers, sun creams and after-sun all have beautiful summery scents anyway.
Chic Shades
Always wear sunglasses. You'll protect your eyes and, if you find a style that flatters your face, you'll ramp up your diva credentials too!
Follow these tips and you'll step out on to the silky soft sand with confidence and style this summer.
